Garmin to Apple Health and Health Connect: What Syncs and How to Connect

Updated October 9, 2026 ยท 7 min read ยท By UltraFit360 Team

๐Ÿ’ก Quick Answer

Garmin Connect syncs with Apple Health on iPhone and with Health Connect on Android, but only one way: Garmin sends data out and does not read anything back from either.

  • Turn it on: iPhone: Garmin Connect โ†’ More โ†’ Settings โ†’ Connect Apps โ†’ Apple Health. Android: Health Connect, on Android 14 or later.
  • Syncs: steps, distance, calories, heart rate, sleep, weight and body fat, and workouts.
  • Does not sync: HRV and Body Battery are not on Garmin's lists, and GPS tracks are not written to Apple Health.
  • Requirement: Garmin Connect must be open in the foreground to send data to Apple Health.

Garmin publishes a separate sharing list for each platform, and the two lists are not identical. This guide follows those lists line by line. For a wider look at the platforms, see the Apple Health vs Health Connect guide.

What Garmin Shares With Apple Health and Health Connect

Garmin notes that Apple Health data is "limited by settings/device support". Once sharing is enabled, Garmin Connect syncs data to either platform after each successful device sync.

How to Connect Garmin to Apple Health

As of October 2026, Garmin documents these steps for iPhone. Sharing is controlled from the Health app:

  1. Open the Apple Health app.
  2. Select Summary (bottom left).
  3. Select your Profile Picture (top right).
  4. Select Apps and Services under Privacy.
  5. Select the Connect app.
  6. Toggle categories on or off.

If sharing was declined the first time, grant permission from inside Garmin Connect first:

  1. Open the Garmin Connect app.
  2. Select More.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Select Connect Apps.
  5. Select Apple Health under "Available Apps".
  6. Select Connect with Apple Health.
  7. Select the items Garmin Connect can access.
  8. Select Allow.

After sharing is enabled, the Health app imports past data going back up to two weeks. The Connect app does not appear in Apple Health if the only device registered to the Garmin Connect account is an Edge cycling computer.

How to Connect Garmin to Health Connect

Garmin states that sharing with Health Connect is only available on Android 14 and above. On Android 14 and later, Health Connect is built into the system; on Android 13 and lower it is a separate download from the Play Store, but Garmin's page lists Android 14 as the minimum. Garmin points to Google's Android Help for the setup, noting that the screens vary by phone model. The Android steps are:

  1. Open Settings and tap Security and privacy โ†’ Privacy Controls โ†’ Health Connect.
  2. Tap Get Started.
  3. Under "Permissions and data", tap App permissions.
  4. Turn on the apps to sync, including Garmin Connect.
  5. Select the data permissions to share, then tap Allow.

Google adds that some apps may need the sync to start from inside the connected app itself. Garmin's page does not describe a Health Connect switch inside Garmin Connect.

Does Garmin Read Data From Apple Health or Health Connect?

No. Garmin's Apple Health page says Garmin Connect "pushes data to Apple Health" but "doesn't pull data from an Apple watch or Apple Health". The Health Connect page says the transfer is one-way and that "Garmin will not read any data from Health Connect".

What Stays Inside the Garmin App

Garmin's two pages list the data above and nothing else. Anything that is not on a list is not shared:

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Garmin sync with Apple Health?

Yes, one way. Garmin Connect pushes data to Apple Health after each successful device sync, but it does not pull data from Apple Health or an Apple Watch. The data includes active energy, resting energy, steps, walking and running distance, flights climbed, heart rate, sleep analysis, weight, body fat percentage, body mass index, water and workouts.

How do I connect Garmin to Health Connect?

Use an Android phone running Android 14 or later. Open Settings, tap Security and privacy, then Privacy Controls, then Health Connect, tap Get Started, open App permissions, turn on Garmin Connect, choose the data to share and tap Allow. Garmin says the feature is only available on Android 14 and above, and the screens vary by phone model.

Does Garmin sync HRV to Apple Health?

HRV is not on the list of data Garmin says Garmin Connect sends to Apple Health. That list covers active energy, body fat percentage, body mass index, flights climbed, heart rate, resting energy, sleep analysis, steps, walking and running distance, water, weight and workouts. HRV is not on Garmin's Health Connect list either.

Why is my Garmin data not showing in Apple Health?

Garmin Connect must be open in the foreground to send data to Apple Health. If it is closed, the transfer completes on the next sync done while the app is open. Apple Health also shows only the highest-priority source for each data type, so move Garmin Connect up under Data Sources & Access.

Can Garmin Connect read data from Health Connect or Apple Health?

No. Garmin describes both connections as one way. Garmin Connect sends data out, and Garmin says it will not read any data from Health Connect and does not pull data from Apple Health or an Apple Watch.

Using Garmin Data in UltraFit360

UltraFit360 reads from Apple Health and Health Connect, so whatever Garmin Connect writes there becomes available to it once you grant permission. Based on Garmin's lists, that includes steps, distance, calories burned, heart rate, sleep and weight. HRV is not on Garmin's lists.

UltraFit360 does not connect to Garmin directly; the route runs through Apple Health or Health Connect. Open Garmin Connect after a workout so it syncs, then see how the AI fitness tracker uses that data alongside meals and workouts, or browse all UltraFit360 features.
